Reflection

This project was a very good experience for me to have as a 9th grader not only did i get great data i had a chance to learn what people think about language i learned that more people that are not from here and that speak a certain language are getting picked on a lot and and more inexperience people that can't really speak English are sometimes getting picked on from different people and more people that can speak English but from a different culture said that no they don't get picked on a lot, when i was a small child i had a friend and she was very proper and i said "they all was goin" then all of a sudden she said "what? what did you say??" and in a way i felt affended by what came out her mouth because me as a little child i'm thinking this slang word is always used since i use it with my family members, so i begin to think that i don't belong or i can't talk so that made me feel like i wasin't apart of her language when we were both from the same state and spoke the same language and now that i look back at that i think maybe her slang is used different from mine, so i guess what im trying to say is that slang and language can be picked up from enviorments and places that you go from a period of time; leading on to my language belief it was proven to be correct, it said that more people that don't speak good English was picked on a lot and more people that can speak English was not picked on a lot so therefore it seems to me that even if you can speak a little English you are more than likely not to get picked on as much as the people who can't speak English so therefore if you can speak English a little you would be more than likely fit in.

Recomindations

I recommend this blog for any type of age group because any one can easily be picked on because of where they come from.

Conclusion

As you know i surveyed people that are currently learning English and people that know English i went to different language groups at our school and those were the people that are learning English and i went to people in different classes that know English but are from a different culture in comparison i compared ESC and Non-Esc and this is what my data proved: more people that are not from here and that speak a certain language are getting picked on a lot and and more inexperience people that can't really speak English are sometimes getting picked on from different people and more people that can speak English but from a different culture say no they don't get picked on, I for one believe that my hypothesis was correct because people that is learning English are getting picked on a lot and people who knows English fits with the crowd.

Interpretation of Data

For my data i did a comparison for ESC and NON-ESC and it showed that on the English Second Language there was 50% of no that others discriminate on people just because they are from a certain ethnic group or culture, there was 25% sometimes that they are getting picked on from where they come from,
and 25% for yes saying that people do discriminate against them even if there from another culture and speak a different language and slang, for my Non-Esc there was a large amount of people (56%) that said that sometimes people make fun of them because they are from somewhere different, 33% of the people said that yes they are being picked on from others, and 11% of the people said no they are not at all getting picked on, so there's just different people with different opinions about language.

Secondary Reasearch

This article called "This is not a black thing" to me means that slang is used by different people in different racial groups. people use slang in different ethnic groups to perform there variates of slang. Many people think that slang is a primary source that people use in every day life, and to me slang is often use in every day life, and not just one kind of slang, but a variates of slang that is used amongst people. people say racial slurs like " y u tryna be black", which is often offensive to people, as Bakari Kitwana (author of "why white kids love hip-hop") says that "suburban kids forge there own identities through hip-hop culture, and often mean no offense by claiming "ghetto styles". I for one believe that this quote that was stated by Bakari Kitwana was true because, many people think that they don't offend you by claiming hip-hop but hip-hop is not something that is only used by African Americans, people may believe that but the truth is, language that you speak can be chosen upon your self, it isn't you're decision to choose whether or not someone speaks a certain language because it's there opinion, just like you have the opinion to speak the way you do they have the right to speak how they won't to speak; and it also depends on the enviorment that you live in and just a matter of opinion to the slang that you speak.

My Reasearch plan

My plan for researching my topic is using websites like: http://dhs.wikispaces.com/
http://www.nettrecker.com/
I'm going to use my family as a resource, my friends, family, the encyclopedia, books, articles, and a student resource center to look up my information about borrowing slang from others.

Research Questions

•Do people think the way people talk offends them?

•Do people talk a certain way because of the enviorment that they live in?

•Do people think that slang is just a different dialect that people use and describe it as slang when it's just another way for a more relaxed language?

•Why do people talk a certain language here but talk a certain language in iraq?

•How many people is being picked at just because the are from a certain ethnic grooup

Reasearch goals

I wont to know more knowledge about why people think other people are taking slang from them because people think that slang was brought up in slavery times by African American, which really wasn't the case. Everyone really spoke slang but in different dialects and different ascents, so every one does not have the same language as you do.

My language belief

There are so many different belives that people belive about language, i for one belive that language is based on the enviorment that you live in and the people that you stay by, i bet your wondering why is this my belief, maybe you'll understand it if i explain it. People today think that there is a difference between "there" language our language and there seperating it by racial slurs and the slang that you use but African american people weren't the only people that spoke slang southern spoke slang, hispanic spoke slang, europeans, britan, england, and so many more countries spoke slang. Every country speaks a selection of slang it's just a series of dialect that we have in our enviorment and because you come from a culture where you can't speak english it dosen't mean that you should be out casted means. I belive that the world is not the same all the way around, no one has the same language and not even the same speech, it just depends on where you are and where you adapt from to have a series of dialect and language to be the same.
